Caaals

How it works

How Caaals projects your weight.

The date on your goal is arithmetic, not a promise. These are all the numbers in it.

From diary to date, in four steps.

  1. Your burn

Mifflin-St Jeor, from your profile — then multiplied by an activity factor between 1.2 (sedentary) and 1.9 (extra active). It is deliberately static: update your profile and the burn updates, and that is the only way it moves.

    10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age, +5 men / −161 women

  2. Your intake

The average of your confirmed diary days over the last 14 days. It takes at least 7 logged days in that window and at least 2 weigh-ins. Entries still waiting on review don’t count — they would inflate the average and flip the story.

  3. Your pace

Burn minus intake is the daily balance. Times seven, divided by 7,700 kcal per kilogram: the projected weekly change.

    pace = (burn − intake) × 7 ÷ 7,700 kg/week

  4. The date

From your current weight, the pace extrapolates week by week until it crosses the goal — within 0.3 kg counts as reached. The curve is capped at 1.5 kg per week for safety, and nothing is projected beyond 104 weeks.

What the statuses mean.

The projection card tells you which of five situations you’re in — including the ones where the honest answer is no date at all.

On track0.2–1.2 kg/week

Your pace sits in the recommended band. The card reads “On track to 75 kg” and gives the date.

Faster than recommendedabove 1.2 kg/week

You’d get there sooner than is sensible — “consider easing off.”

Heading the wrong waybalance points away from the goal

A surplus while aiming down, or a deficit while aiming up. The chart shows it plainly instead of hiding it.

Barely movingunder 0.05 kg/week

Too small a pace to honestly extrapolate. No date is shown.

Not enough datafewer than 7 diary days or 2 weigh-ins

The projection waits for a real sample rather than inventing one from a day or two.

Why the chart uses a trend line.

Daily weigh-ins swing with water, salt, and timing. The chart shows every weigh-in as a dot, and a 7-day moving average as the line — and the projection anchors on that trend, not on this morning’s number. History goes back 90 days.

Try the math with your numbers.

On track to 75 kg

At this pace, you'd reach your 75 kg goal around 30 September 2026 — within the recommended band of 0.2–1.2 kg per week.

The same arithmetic the app runs — Mifflin-St Jeor burn from your profile, pace at 7,700 kcal per kg, projection capped at 1.5 kg per week and 104 weeks. A linear estimate of your current pace, not medical advice. In the app, intake is measured from your confirmed diary instead of typed in.

Questions

What if I don't log every day?

The projection needs at least 7 logged days within the last 14, plus at least 2 weigh-ins. Days you skip aren't guessed or filled in — they simply don't count toward the average. With fewer than 7 days, Caaals says "not enough data" instead of showing a made-up date.

Why is the projection capped at 1.5 kg per week?

Anything faster than 1.5 kg per week is not a pace to plan around. The raw pace is still computed and shown, but the projected curve — and therefore the date — is clamped at 1.5 kg per week as a safety measure.

Does Caaals adapt my burn automatically?

No. The burn is the Mifflin-St Jeor formula applied to your profile — sex, age, height, weight, and activity level — and it changes only when your profile does. Caaals does not claim to learn your metabolism.
